Turkish ditch – Celtic opidum

The Celtic oppidum, known under the name Turski šanac, is located near Bačka Palanka, on the left bank of the Danube in the direction of Obrva. In the lowland part of the atar, an earthen fortification in the shape of a ring dominates, the width of the rampart is 5m, and the preserved height is 1.80m. A smaller sounding survey was carried out in 1970, when the method of construction of the ramparts was determined and the remains of a half-earthen settlement were found. To the south of the earthen fort lies a probably urbanized, semi-buried late settlement. Based on the findings of ceramics and metals, it is assumed that the oppidum was built in the late Late Latin period and lasted until the middle of the 1st century AD, and that the Boji Celtic tribe lived in it.
