In the period from 1888 to 1889, the foundations of a stone-built Roman camp and brick-built tombs were discovered at the “Stručica” site. Based on the marks on the bricks, it was established that the VI Legion of Herculia and the III Cohort of Apinorum equitata resided here. In 1909, a hoard of Roman bronze coins was discovered in an unknown place, which contained coins of emperors from the 4th and 5th centuries.
On the Strumica hill in the locality of Gradina, on the site of a fortified Romanesque monastery from the 10th century, during archaeological research in 1971, the remains of Roman buildings were found, and to the southwest, the remains of a quadrangular tower. A lot of movable material from the late antique period was also collected.
Unlike other locations in Rakovec, Roman graves and Roman aqueducts were found in private courtyards.
